My eldest is about to finish his studies in Swansea Uni in Wales so I have been looking into the way the recruitment market has changed in respect to the way employers and potential employees are interacting the universities themselves are training people leaving like my son to do the best they can with this new technology.
When you start at university there is a lot of stock put in the fact that you should be preparing for your career after your course, but there is very little help given to you in preparing for how you should be planning your career out and how to interview for the positions that you want to gain.
Lecturers will tell you things such as, you will be able to apply for this or that position, expect a salary in between x and y. but do they tell you that your first interview will probably be a video interview ?
How about as a lecturer how do you prepare your students for the possibility of having a video interview, do you know how they work, could you help a student prepare for it?
As an academic business you should be prepping your students as best you can for the new video interview landscape that is emerging.

If the university trains their alumni in regards to interviewing and talking skills, then businesses will be more likely to look for those schools when they are sorting candidates because they know that those candidates may well already hit some of the criteria required for the position, due to the exit training and skills that they gain
