I had a polyp on my uterus removed today.

Well, it was supposed to be one,

but,

as it turns out,

I had multiple.

They should be benign, so I'm not all too concerned.

And late next month,

I will go for a breast MRI,

which I do once a year

- in addition to a mammogram -

because I am considered "high-risk."

But there was a period of time when I didn't pay the best attention to my health.

There was probably a 10-year span that I didn't

see a dentist,

go for annual physicals and wellness checks,

and if I wasn't actively trying to get pregnant

or actually pregnant,

I wasn't checking in with my OB/GYN.

I guess I thought I was invincible.

That nothing could or would ever happen to me if I didn't want it to.

BUT

that's
not
how
life
works.

And time and time again, life emphasizes this when it throws lemons

in the form of

polyps

or breast lumps

or aches and pains for which a culprit cannot be sourced.

Sure, some of this 'ish is just "getting older."

Heck, some of it might be related to my one stint with covid.

BUT,

some of it isn't.

Some of it is preventable.

And what's not preventable is *usually* somewhat manageable.

BUT ONLY IF YOU ARE PAYING ATTENTION.

And only if YOU stay on top of your health.

I mentioned that I once thought I was invincible.

But now I realize that though I'm not,

I DO have the power to make myself less vulernable to illness.

And to make myself more capable of battling any minor or major health hiccup.

And I maintain that capability BY GIVING MY HEALTH AND ATTENTION THE TIME IT DESERVES.

It's far too easy to sit your health on the sideline in this game of life, being that yours is overscheduled and jampacked with other, seemingly just as, if not more, pressing things to focus on.

But if you don't focus on your health now, you're not guaranteed the time you promise you'll spend on it down the road.

SO -

Schedule that checkup, and don't cancel it.

Make that appointment you've been putting off, and then make a follow-up while you're still there.

Remember...

you're not invincible.

But you really are stacking the deck in your favor when you give yourself the life-lengthening gift of taking care of yourself.
