When I'm at the grocery store with my 5 year old and 19 month old, I do a few things to keep them manageable. First strategy for the 5 year old is always the iPad. But if I don't have it or he gets bored, we play a game of "Where Is It?" I ask him where the peanut butter or hot dogs or cheese etc. is and he's always excited to go on a hunt for the items and throw them in the basket. Keeps him occupied and gets the shopping done at the same time! With my 19 month old, I make sure to bring plenty of snacks and at least one toy to keep him occupied.
