Parents, you’ve got questions, we’ve got answers.

Or just as likely, we’ve got questions and you’ve got answers.

I love you more than social media.

I know that, but do you?

That's what matters.

I love you more than coffee or wine.

That's a given.

But do you believe that?

Let's freakin' hope.

Every day I'm

on Facebook,

texting friends,

watching videos,

grabbin' coffee or a cocktail,

gabbing with other moms,

busy with laundry and housework (and complaining about it)

or

am hyper-focused on my work.

All of which quite possibly make you feel low on my priority totem pole.

But, dear God, I pray that is not (ever) your belief.

I love you more than any other less important thing that typically distracts me from you.

And, because of that, I MUST stop allowing myself to become sidetracked by a single dang consuming thing that pulls me in a direction that places distance between us.

As a mama, it's hard to mom 24/7.

Motherhood -- on its face and under the hood -- is engrossing and depleting, hence my (possibly selfish) need to disconnect occasionally.

And, not from you, my dear child, but from the expectations I have for myself and the pressure I place upon my being not to screw you, our relationship, or myself up.

But, what I worry is happening when I attempt to deactivate is that you may be incorrectly assuming that I host a desire to disengage from you.

WRONG.

So wrong.

Truth?

I'm just trying to reengage with myself and, sometimes, I need a little help with that in the form of

a solo walk,

some caffeine,

a conversation with a friend,

a social media binge,

some light reading,

some show watching,

a laundry hiatus,

or a glass of a red blend.

Still, here's the thing --

I love you more than social media.

I know that, but do you?

That's what matters.

I love you more than coffee or wine.

That's a given.

But do you believe that?

Hear me loud when I tell you that

I love you more than Facebook,

more than any friend I text,

more than any funny or sweet video I could watch,

more than a hot cup of Starbucks or a glass of rose,

more than any other mom I'll eagerly chat up,

more than my work,

and you've got to know that I love you more than laundry,

but I also love you so freakin' much that I'll do yours for the rest of life if you need me to.

I flippin' love you, child, more than anything, and I'm boldly stating my intention to make it my life's purpose to ensure you realize that.
