Of all the things the pandemic has impacted the least talked about is our marriages. I've seen very little chatter about the difficulties this year has brought for all the husbands, wives, partners, spouses, girlfriends and boyfriends among us. Sure, I've seen jokes about how the amount of divorce petitions and breakups skyrocketed in the early days of the outbreak, but what about the good stuff?
Author Britt LeBoeuf and her husband, Kevin.
You know...
The way she tackled that homeschool packet like a boss and by the end of it all you swore she was a teacher in a former life.
Or the way he took the kids outside for "recess" for over two hours to give you some peace and quiet for just a little while.
The trips to the grocery store with masks and hand sanitizer in tow, became the new date night.
Drive-thru restaurants and eating chicken sandwiches off of the dashboard of the truck was the closest you'd get to a dinner out with each other for months on end.
Being able to see him do the job that he is amazing at, briefly listening to him as he talks to clients and gives them advice that will forever change their lives for the better.
Seeing her as she goes through backpacks in the afternoon and tucks fitted bedsheets onto top bunk bed mattresses like some kind of trapeze artist.
The thing I've come to discern about marriage during a pandemic....
It makes or breaks you.
It makes you realize how much you love that person and maybe forgot in the daily hustle of life or how much you've grown apart.
Take a minute and let that set in.
You and your "person" survived a pandemic together. You powered through the never ending days of homeschooling, fear of this unknown virus and being together day in and day out for months.
"We survived the 2020 pandemic" shirts should be given out to couples everywhere because let's admit it...it was no easy task and we really aren't at the end of the tunnel yet. But, man, if you came out the other end of it all more grateful, in love and closer to your spouse well then take a minute and tell them that.
With COVID numbers rising, there's no promises of tomorrow and in this season of giving, what better time to let that one person you love more than life itself know just how important they are to you?
