We don’t have time for each other.

It’s true.

We haven’t had a real date night in who knows how long.

And it feels like everywhere I turn, and everything I read, the message is that without an official date night, we might be doomed.

But….

In an effort to keep the same ship afloat, the reality is we’re often running different directions.

He might be bailing water on one end; I might be patching a hole on the other end. We’re both working so hard for the same goal. Both so committed to the same purpose. And yet, the responsibilities that come with the job can make it hard to find one another.

So…

We don’t have time for each other.

But, if I have to patch a hole, he makes sure I have everything I need to get the job done. And, if he has to bail water, I make sure he has the very best bucket.

It’s our way.

We don’t have time for each other.

But we always touch hands when we pass.

We don’t have time for each other.

But he always makes sure I’ve had a full breakfast.

We don’t have time for each other.

But I always take the night shift as often as I can.

We don't have time for each other.

But we always lock eyes across the room.

We don’t have time for each other.

But he always tries to lighten my load.

We don't have time for each other.

But I always let him know how much I appreciate his efforts.

We don’t have time for each other.

But we always make the other laugh.

We don’t have time for each other.

But he always leaves me sweet notes on the coffee maker.

We don’t have time for each other.

But I always try to put myself as near to him as possible.

We don’t have time for each other.

But we always sleep pressed against one another.

We don't have time for each other.

But he’s always cheering the LOUDEST for me.

We don’t have time for each other.

But I always tell him he’s looking exceptionally handsome in his work shirt.

We don’t have time for each other.

But there’s no one else we'd have by our side.

We don’t have time for each other.

But we're 1,000% committed to keeping our ship floating.

And…

While official date nights will always be amazing and appreciated, I’ve learned that the practice of loving each other well, in all the ordinary and everyday moments, matters far more.

We've worked hard to lace our daily routines and habits with love.

And with that...

We always have time for each other.
