That wife of yours, she's a keeper.

Not your keeper, of course, because you don't need or want to be controlled (nor should you be), but she's one that you should hold on to, and I'm going to tell you why.

That wife of yours --

the one you barely recognize these days in her baggy sweatpants, child-stained t-shirt, and messy top knot...

That wife of yours --

the one whose early morning cheerfulness irks the crap out of you...

That wife of yours --

the one who tends to the kiddos and has a hot cup of coffee ready and waiting for you...

That wife of yours --

the one who seems irritated and unaffectionate...

That wife of yours --

the one who can be passive-aggressive...

That wife of yours --

the one who can be unnecessarily overdramatic...

That wife of yours --

the one that your kids can't get enough of...

That wife of yours --

the one you can't get enough of when she wears her hair down and that tight black dress on date night...

That wife of yours --

the one who not only captains the ship, but mapped its course and helps it stay on track...

That wife of yours --

the one who is plagued by anxiety...

That wife of yours --

the one who wants to contribute more to the family financially, but hasn't quite figured out how...

That wife of yours --

the one with big dreams...

That wife of yours --

the one whose forever dream was to live the life she has now with a loving and supportive husband and gorgeous, well-mannered, compassionate kids...

That wife of yours --

the one you argue with on (many) occasion...

That wife of yours --

who regularly complains and sounds ungrateful...

That wife of yours --

the one who feels she is sort of boring...

That wife of yours --

the one who feels she is sort of becoming...

That wife of yours --

the one next to you right now, zoning out on her smartphone...

That wife of yours --

the one sipping her now cold coffee in between kid cuddles...

That wife of yours --

the one who already left for work...

That wife of yours --

who tirelessly tends to the endless housework...

That wife of yours --

the one that gets agitated if you come home later than planned...

That wife of yours --

the one who supports you, but needs support, too...

That wife of yours --

the one who is, well, complicated...

she loves you.

And, she loves your children and this life more than you will ever know.

That wife of yours,

though she may not be your keeper,

she sure is one.

And, that's because every gosh darn day she does whatever the heck she needs

TO

KEEP

HER

SHIITAKE

TOGETHER.

And yours,

and the kids,

and goodness knows she's also doling out help, support, and kindness to anyone else who crosses her path on any given day.

So, you see, that wife of yours, she's a keeper, but not because she's

ridiculously sexy,

surprisingly successful,

or even

endearingly charming.

Nope, she's a keeper because she KEEPS AT IT

-- this whole marriage, parenting and self-improvement thing --

every

single

day;

even when it's hard.

There's something undeniably special about a woman who strives always to offer up the best of who she is while on her own unique journey of self-discovery working toward becoming the ideal human she longs to be.

That wife of yours,

she's a keeper,

but here's hoping you already knew that.
