Suppose you've ever questioned how to block videos on YouTube, or how you can install a kid-safe YouTube atmosphere for your kid. In that case, the solution is simple- activate the Youtube Parental Controls. Like the name suggests, the parental control feature guarantees that you have complete control over the kind of content offered to your kids, regardless of your physical appearance. This step-by-step guide will lead you through how to set up YouTube limitations, as well as a few other tips for preventing mature content from your kids.

  • You can set parental restrictions on YouTube in two main steps to make sure your child only watches relevant videos.
  • To install parental controls on YouTube, you can use Restricted Mode to filter out unsuitable search results.
  • You can also get the YouTube Kids app, which already separates most inappropriate content and provides for parents' extra restrictions.

There is an endless supply of great YouTube videos for children from cartoons to informative videos and everything in among.

On the other hand, there is also an endless supply of YouTube videos that children have no business watching — so you must know how to make YouTube a safe place for children.

Luckily, YouTube does it pretty simple for you to do that with parental restrictions. Here's what you require to understand.

Practice YouTube's 'Restricted' Mode on Browsers

YouTube's Restricted Mode is an elective parental limitation that "uses flags such as description, metadata, video title, Community Guidelines reviews, and age-restrictions to recognize and filter out probably mature content." Of course, it's not reliable and questionable content can still get through, but it's the best defense line. The Youtube Parental Controls Mode is simple to turn on if you have a Google account. The only point to remember is that it's browser-level security and must be turned on for each browser/computer your children use.

Here's how to do it:

  1. Enter YouTube.com and sign in to your YouTube/Google profile.
  2. Tick the 'Settings' link in the left sidebar.
  3. Tick the drop-down list at the bottom of the page that reads: "Restricted Mode: Off."
  4. Choose "On" to lock Restricted Mode on your browser.
  5. Tick 'Save."

You're finished, at least for this browser. Rinse and duplicate with other browsers and other machines. Also, don't ignore to log out of your YouTube and Google account when you complete. Unless a clever child will soon figure out how to undo all your hard work and turn Restricted Mode off.

Refresh YouTube Permissions on Telephones and Tablets

As you're also expected to hand over a tablet or telephone, make sure Youtube Parental Control is also provided on both the device's browser and the corresponding YouTube app. For phone browsers, follow the methods outlined above. For YouTube apps, the basis is the same:

with iOS

  1. Tick on your account link in the top right corner.
  2. Select 'Settings.'
  3. Tick 'Restricted Mode' Filtering.
  4. Use 'Restricted Mode' on.

with Android

  1. Log into your YouTube/Google profile.
  2. Tick on the "three-dot" image for 'Settings.'
  3. Choose ‘Settings’ > ‘General.’
  4. Use 'Restricted Mode' on.

Over, sign out if you have children with above-average intelligence.

Use the YouTube Kids App

For more stringent controls on smart devices, try the YouTube Kids app for iOS and Android telephones and tablets. It's an entirely different, kid-friendly interface that enables parents to view channels and videos that have been evaluated by real people (not the faulty algorithm that restricted mode uses) to make certain they're safe for children. You can also set age settings within the app to let older children see stuff you might not want a more youthful kid to find just yet.

Set on Google SafeSearch

Restricting information with the YouTube parental controls is nice and all, but let this be a helpful reminder that children access mature material all over the internet. Your preference should be turning on the 'Safe Search' filter in any browser your kid uses.

  1. Continue to Google.com
  2. Tick 'Settings' in the link right corner.
  3. Choose 'Search Settings.'
  4. Mark 'Turn on SafeSearch" and click Lock SafeSearch.
