My boys were born early at 30 weeks due to cord complications. I had anticipated an early delivery and NICU stay because I was expecting mono di twins but was not anticipating it to be so soon. At only 2lbs 2oz and 1lb 11oz, my littles were taken from me immdiately after my c-section and brought to the NICU where they would stay for 9 long weeks. Every day for my babies was both a challenge and a milestone. 2 steps forward, one step back seemed the trend as my boys fought to live and thrive to the next day. They were so tiny and fragile, but had a fight in them that I've never seen before. Each tiny progression was a celebrated milestone not only by me and dad, but by the NICU staff as well. I am forever grateful to the doctors, nurses, and ancillary staff in the NICU who helped them on their journey to health and who gave us the knowledge to understand their needs and care for them once they were able to come home.
