Mommy’s Tired Eyes

I’m studying the curves of his face. I’m saving a “2 AM photo of mommy’s tired eyes” because I never want to forget these moments.

It’s exhaustion and gratefulness. It’s bliss and chaos. It’s a memory bank full of emotions.

I’ve contemplated which side of the family he got his dimples from and wondered how a little pouty lip can be so stinking cute.

I’m inhaling the newborn aroma and taking in the middle-of-the-night feeds and cuddles while the rest of the house is quiet.

I’m soaking in the countless hours a day of breastfeeding time, giving my body grace as it heals and recovers, and trying to enjoy the process of having a newborn for the last time.

I’m only a few days in of this season of the birth of our third child and while my mama brain is constantly going, I’m trying to pause the loud voices and take in these moments.

Whatever season of life you are in right now — be there. Embrace it. Live it. Do your best. Ask for help. Pray a lot. Forgive constantly.
