Buying a car: luxury or necessity?

There were times when buying a used car did not require as much exercise as it does today. It was enough to go to a currency exchange or turn a corner to get the dollars and then go to a stand or car park and buy the desired car. The used cars were mostly Toyota, due to its durability it was adapted to the financial and market conditions. It was so simple and easy that the practice of buying used cars (abroad) and selling (domestic) became a prosperous business for many people. In fact, very good people could afford to change cars every two years. 30% of the used cars came from the European market like Belgium and Germany. Later the business was extended to the United Arab Emirates, where although the right-hand drive vehicles were less durable, they were younger and with some comfort. Those who did used-car business were mostly official dispatchers, as they were easier to travel because of certain privileges they enjoyed. In fact they have created thousands of jobs for young people. For example, you could find drivers, mechanics and electricians. Each of these "professionals" had a certain task. Drivers provided services to companies that bought car fleets, and many had no drivers to take cars from the park to the company. The same was true of dispatchers who bought 10 or 15 cars and requested the services of drivers. And when the car had problems due to the weather, they asked the services of electricians or mechanics.

As a result, many people made car parks their place of work. This has been the case for many years, especially as many have been able to build their homes and train their parents. With this measure the citizens were forced to give up the business because they did not have enough resources to continue, leaving behind a trail of unemployed, because a car of up to 3 years in the European market was almost new. In the past, citizens had to go for new car auto loans. Commercial banks were asked to grant this type of credit, under pre-established conditions and whose salaries were compatible with the desired type of vehicle. For this reason, not everyone managed to realize the dream of their own car. Some with lower wages took the purchase of Hyundai i10, Suzuki Spark and Celerio, others with more comfortable wages bet on Kia Sportage, Hyundai Accent and Elantra. Due to these difficulties, the Government withdrew its decision.

According to experts, the change was motivated by facilitating access to vehicle acquisition by individuals and companies with less financial resources. But the impact did not have the expected result. Firstly, because the use of foreign currency is not easy, and secondly, the cost of the devaluation effect, the eventual use of foreign exchange buying on the parallel market and the maintenance cost of heavily used vehicles make their acquisition unfeasible. Now many citizens are waiting for the government to do something to make life easier for them to buy a car. This is because, nowadays, having a car is no longer a matter of luxury, like someone buying a luxury watch from watchshopping.com, but of increasing need due to the limited means of public transport and the growth of cities.
