Mr. Jonas,

At first glance you may think I am the type of fan who gets giddy when I see you on television or hear you on the radio.

When so many people think of THE Nick Jonas, they see a superstar with the perfect life and envision a perfect California Dream.

There is nothing wrong with the fanbase who sees you in this light.

However, I see you so differently.

I am a mother of a Type 1 diabetic who was diagnosed at 12. You know, the age where you finally get a little independence from your parents.

Instead of independence, it was taken away immediately with constant finger pricks, insulin needles that overflowed the sharps container, constant supervision during middle school classes, and worse, a nagging mom who truly just wanted to keep her child alive.

My daughter heard your song “A Little Bit Longer” and she became an instant fan. She saw someone who shared this horrible and misunderstood disease and her resentment and anger slowly turned into hope.

You gave her hope.
Thank you.

You shine a light on managing and learning to thrive through Type 1.

She is a super-fan because of this.
She patiently waited for a Dexcom commercial during the Super Bowl.
She likes each one of your IG posts.

I thank you with all my heart for singing hope into my beautiful child.
You inspire a whole Insulin Dependent Community.
One. Unit. At. A. Time.

Thank you,
A mother of a Type 1 diabetic (who is your number one fan)
