If you’re lucky enough to be a work from home mom, you’ve probably already discovered one of the perks is not having a dress code. But staying in your pajamas all day may not be the best idea for your business. Numerous studies have shown that the way we look affects how we think, act and feel.

About five years ago, I learned this the hard way. Just a few short months into working from home, I lost all accountability for looking put-together. My yoga pants became my daily uniform. Unfortunately, it started to affect my productivity and motivation and I fell into a major "'mom rut".

Falling into this rut was the catalyst for starting my blog Get Your Pretty On. Blogging has been my accountability partner for getting dressed in real clothes on a daily basis. Even if I don’t leave the house, I still make an effort to look presentable every day and it’s made all the difference in how I feel about myself.

Through the years, I’ve found that I go back to the same pieces over and over again. My closet is full of plenty of options whether I’m doing video calls, meeting with a client, at a speaking engagement or just staying home and writing at my kitchen table. Having a core wardrobe of basics allows me to create mix and match outfits and makes my life a lot less stressful and getting dressed a no-brainer.

10 Wardrobe Basics for Work from Home Moms

1. Dark Wash Jeans

Every woman needs a great fitting pair of dark wash jeans. They’re universally flattering and can be dressed up with heels and a blouse or down with casual basics. Look for a pair that has a little stretch for the best fit.

Don't give up your collection of heels quite yet! A great pair of heels is perfect for a business meeting and make me feel like I can conquer the world. When I need a little extra confidence, I pair them up with my favorite blouse and jeans or a skirt.
