Being a mother is not an easy job. It requires a lot of hard work and patience, and the returns come very slowly (seeing your child grow up to be self-sufficient and independent, of course). Add to that, a separate job, and working moms barely have time for anything else. Being fashionable holds the least priority in the list of most mothers, but it is something that all moms desire. So how can you be a mom, and fashionable at the same time? Read these tips to find out.

1. Accessorize

Accessories can be your best friend if you strive to look fashionable but don’t want to spend a lot of time doing so. An earring or a necklace can really change the way you look, and it’s not very hard to match them with your clothes either.

Accessories also do not take a lot of time to put on, and can be the difference between looking plain and looking fabulous. Investing in accessories is a good way for moms to look fashionable, and also economical with respect to time. So buy that earring or scarf you’ve been eyeing, they will really help you become fashionable.

2. Wear dark denims

Dark denims will never go out of style. Choose a figure hugging and comfortable one to show off your hips. Darker denims are also a lot easier to match with a variety of tops, and the general rule of thumb with fashion is to choose darker hues the lower you go through your body.

A pair of black jeans are really versatile; they can be matched with anything. If you think that they’re too boring or too common, you can go for darker hues of blue or grey as well. On top of all that, denims are really comfortable, so you can look fabulous without compromising on comfort!

3. Layers

Layers are another crafty yet simple way of looking fashionable. Layering your clothes will make you look a lot better than plain dressing. A tank top that peers out of your shirt, or a tube top over your shirt can make all the difference.

Layering does require some time and effort though. Although it’s not as hard as matching outfits, some level of thought must go into it, lest you end up looking like a clown. So layer your clothes, but be smart about it.

4. Wear heels

Heels are good for your calves, and also help maintain your posture. They also make you look taller than you already are. Obviously stiletto heels are not something that has a place in the daily ensemble of most moms, but heels are not limited to stilettos.

There are a lot of choices in the market. Choose a comfortable pair of shoes that have a few inches of elevation. Platform heels are also a good choice, since they are practical, comfortable, as well as stylish.

5. Buy Dark Boots

A pair of dark boots can really become your best friends. They can be worn with anything without looking out of place, and they’re also very fashionable. Wearing boots are a good way to stay fashionable, and deserve a place in the wardrobe of all mothers.

According to Mary from Floryday, “Knee high boots are versatile, sturdy and also look very good. So investing in them is a good way to be fashionable as well as practical.”

6. Discuss with your friends

If you’re a mom, then the chances are high that your social circle has a group of moms as well. The strive to look fashionable does not exist within just you, most of your friends probably feel the same. However, fashion just does not have enough priority for them to bring up or discuss.

Change the way it works! Your friends are probably following some innovative tips and advice to look fashionable without spending much time, and you’re probably doing the same. Share your ideas and listen to theirs, and adopt those that you feel are good for you. Following this can really change your perspective on fashion and help you look fabulous.

7. Wear stylish coats and jackets

Coats and jackets are lifesavers, they don’t need any preparation and can simply be thrown on. However, they make all the difference to your ensemble, so you should pick them with thought and deliberation.

Stylish coats and jackets might also be expensive, so it is better to research what will be better for you and your body type, instead of just going to the store and choosing what looks good. Having a clear idea of what you want will help you save time shopping and also allow you to save money, since you know what you want and can strive to get the best deal for that.

8. Do not wear domestic clothes outside the house

A general rule of thumb is that if you can wear it to bed, you can’t wear it out of the door. Pajamas and sweatshirts are very comfortable and practical for the hectic life of a mom, but they’re a big no-no if you want to look fashionable.

Even if you’re just going to the grocery store to pick up a few supplies, make yourself presentable. It really helps when you’re in the right mindset to look fashionable, rather than just wearing clothes and hoping for the best.

9. Buy clothes that don’t need ironing

Being a mother barely gives you time to dress well, so if your good clothes need to be ironed before wear, it’s not feasible for you or your schedule.

Buy clothes that look good but also don’t need to be ironed, so that you can simply wear them instead of spending time preparing the beforehand.

10. Be confident

This is arguably the most important tip for you to look fashionable. Confidence is key to everything. If you believe that you are fashionable, then you are, otherwise you aren’t.

Following trends and wearing stylish clothes are meaningless if you can’t pull it off. So the next time you dress to impress, have the right mindset for it as well!
