Ivy Lee's Birth Story:
I was mid Home birth (My fourth!), was 8CM dilated when we believe the baby flipped. I thought Ivy just moved her position, but we quickly realized she was suddenly breach. I was rushed to the hospital where I had an emergency C-Section. Our daughter who was kicking the doctor as he cut into me, was born lifeless. She was ghostly white. My husband Ian and I were stunned as they did CPR and resuscitated her. Ian started chanting "Breathe baby, breathe." Ian was then escorted out because he was fixing to pass out & I was sedated because I became hysterical. It lasted forever in my mind before they got a response because I was knocked out before they got her going. Our daughter Ivy Lee was then stabilized and they brought her in to me in a traveling isolet, on life support, a ton of wires and tubes hanging all over her. I touched her head and cried as they rushed her off to John's Hopkins All Children's Hospital. She was put on a cooling blanket for 4 days to help combat brain injury & rewarmed on July 4th. She had a breathing tube 2x and was on a CPAP to help maintain her airway. She had no gag reflex and a floppy airway. She has had 2 collapsed lungs. She has had many seizures and is on meds helping and hoping to control them. Most recent MRI Shows Hypoxia & Ischemia, which doesn't say a whole lot that we didn't already know, she was some how deprived of oxygen and blood at some point before or during delivery. She eats from a Gtube but is making progress eating orally. I did EVERYTHING right during my pregnancy! I practiced breathing and did pelvic rocks to get her where she needed to be. I went to the Chiropractor often to keep my body aligned. I ate well and took all my vitamins. I always had a bottle of water at my side to keep hydrated. We just don't understand how we ended up in this situation. In fact the doctor himself said he is "perplexed" because he felt her kicking as he made the first cut! Her cord blood was tested and the oxygen level was perfect, no anomalies in her placenta - nothing - no explanation :/ We are hopeful for her future as we BELIEVE that God CAN move mountains and will help Ivy heal. Ivy has fought HARD to get to were she is today at 4months old, but still has a LONG hard road ahead of her. She was 7lbs, 11oz & 20" long at birth and is now 11.5 lbs & 24 3/4"! She has long fingers AND LONG toes. Her eyes are a beautiful blue, and she had DARK almost black hair, but now it looks brown and has a golddish tint. She responds to Ian more than me, it's ok with me, because we already knew she'd have Daddy wrapped around her little finger! She cries, she smiles, she's almost laughing, and she rolls over! ♡ She has her brothers and sister at her back and call! We are so hopeful for a bright future!
