Gardening can be a great way for kids to have fun and learn about how plants grow. Every kid like getting a bit mucky so why not make getting mucky a learning experience at the same time. I want to cover in this article how you can make sure gardening is fun, if you just tell them to mow the lawn or start weeding they are likely to find it boring or more like a chore!

Kids Space

A great way for kids to enjoy gardening is to give them a set space in the garden that’s just theirs. This way they will have something to call their own and they could with as they please. Let them pick what to plant whilst explaining to them how each one needs to be cared for. You can also look at buying them their own gardening tools, this will make a great birthday or Christmas present!

Picky Eaters?

Let’s face it, a lot of kids are picky when it comes to food, especially fruits and vegetables! A great way to overcome this is to let them pick some fruits and vegetables to grow themselves. Giving them the option what to grow will make them a lot more likely to eat them as all giving them skills to actually grow them. It’s also really fun to grow things you can eat! Wait till you see your child’s face once they see broccoli they planted appearing!

Wildlife

Attracting wildlife into the garden is a sure fire way to get kids into the garden having fun. From butterfly’s, to birds, to hedgehogs, there are ways to attract each into your garden. One the topic of wildlife, make sure your kids are well aware of some of the gardens pests that can hurt both you and your plants such as wasps and slugs.

Quick Growers

Just like your kids, you’ll want to pick plants that grow quickly and don’t require too much maintenance. The reason being is as soon as they start to progress, the stem growing, buds starting to form they will get excited and their interest will continue. You’ll also want to make sure that you plant several of the same kind, as it can be disheartening for children to put so much effort into something and for a plant not to grow.

I hope with these tips your children can enjoy gardening as much as mine do.
