Many people believe that preschool is a place to take children and let them play all day. well if this is what your preschool promises it's missing the boat. Preschool should have several items you should look for.

1. a safe place to learn

2. a learning environment which nurtures your child

3. a place that playing is also learning

4. the beginning......where your child will begin to learn standard school procedures

if this is your first child and your first year that you will be leaving your little one with total strangers this will be a tough choice. as a preschool teacher I would like parents to ask me these questions.

1. can I bring my child to meet you before school begins?

(yes you can, a private introduction makes a wonderful first day of school)

2. should I prepare my child for preschool?

(yes, your child should know how to go to the restroom, open their own lunch and be able to feed themselves. they should know how to hold a writing utensil)

3. should I be on time?

(YES!!!! just because it's preschool doesn't mean we don't have a schedule we keep, from circle time to centers to crafts, numbers , letters. there is work to be done.)

as you get ready for the first day of school, your child will need some encouragement since this too is a new adventure for them.

The adventure of education begins !!!
