Sales used to be my dream job ever since I was in high school. It was something I had a knack for and enjoyed doing. During the first few years working as a salesperson, I was in love with my job. However, I soon found out that it wasn’t always so great. The companies I worked for didn’t really value employees in the sales department. They would never listen to my suggestion or take my feedback. In some cases, employers even prevented me from doing my job properly due to their ineffective sales strategies.

At the time I figured everyone was at least a bit miserable at work, so I decided to ignore any thoughts of quitting. This proved to be a good strategy until I met the perfect man and became pregnant. I was initially scared when I found out I was having a baby. I wasn’t sure if I would be a good mother. What I later learned is that all women share these worries. As soon as my first son was born, these negative thoughts and insecurities immediately faded. It felt like I experienced love for the first time, and I just knew that I was going to be a good mother. This is when I figured out the most important job in the world to me is being a mom.

Following my maternity leave, it was a struggle for me to get back to work. It just didn’t make me happy. However, I couldn’t quit because I needed the money – or at least that’s what I thought. The thing is, you can be a stay-at-home mom without worrying about finances as long as you come up with a good plan. The first thing you’ll need to ask yourself is whether you can afford to quit your job. Keep in mind that you will have to set aside a good sum of money as an emergency fund in case your husband loses his job.

Note that your retirement fund will stop growing since you won’t be employed. This means that nothing will be going toward your pension or social security plan. It’s also a good idea to see if there are any ways you can decrease your major life expenses. For instance, could you move to a smaller house? I managed to cut down a monthly expense by working out a deal with my Toronto mortgage broker. I simply explained the situation and my agent helped me restructure my mortgage payment plan.

Although it’s tough to think about it, you will have to determine whether your prepared if something unexpected happens. For instance, it’s crucial you have enough money in your emergency fund to cover you if your spouse becomes ill or disabled. There is also the possibility of your husband leaving you or vice versa. Only once you’re prepared for anything that could happen should you actually quit your job.

It’s recommended you think about becoming a freelancer to earn some extra money. There are a number of jobs you can do online, from content writing to logo design. If you have a hobby you can turn into a business, you should try it. Having your own business would allow you to set your own hours. This could help you maintain a good work and family balance.

I’m very happy with my decision to become a stay-at-home mom. I’m happier than I’ve ever been. However, I have to mention that you shouldn’t quit your job just because you hate it. When I made my decision to quit, I did it because I knew I would enjoy being a stay-at-home mom. Nothing makes me happier than being able to spend time with my kids. This is the reason why I left my sales job.
