After 40 weeks, we have finally arrived at the last amazing moment. We are holding our new baby in our arms. Though it isn’t al rainbows and unicorns, in between feedings and naptime, diaper changes and cuddles, we are slowing back to a new normal. Everything is falling into a rhythm. Everything, especially our hair.

Postpartum hair loss is a common woe for many new moms. “Postpartum hair blues can leave new mothers crying like a baby,” many of them experiencing hair loss, starting around one to five months after giving birth, according to the American Pregnancy Association. The good thing is that the hair loss is only temporary. However, as you stare at those clumps of hair on the bathroom floor, you may wonder just how you can make your thinning mane look semi-decent when you are, just now, barely, able to change clothes once in the past week. Lucky for us, below are some tips on it.

  • Avoid drastic changes to your hairstyle. As tempting as it is to go get that sassy new look everyone is sporting, avoid any major changes to your look for a while. “Remember that you will be looking down at that little bundle of joy for several months,” “Unless you have the help and the time to get into your stylist every six weeks, which is highly improbable, I do not recommend going for new bangs or a trendy new haircut.”
  • Keep up that healthy diet. Growing that baby required a strong and healthy diet. All of the vitamins and nutrients you focused on during pregnancy are just as essential for your post-pregnancy health. Staying hydrated, eating fruits and veggies, and taking those vitamin supplements will all make a huge difference for your hair (and overall health) when your baby is here.
  • Products are your BFFs. Regularly shampooing and conditioning is key, not just to keep your hair healthy, but also to feel refreshed overall, a fabulous mood booster for new moms. “I love to give every new mother a basket of postpartum hair care products at baby showers,” “Depending on your hair texture, there are some must-haves for any new mom, like a great moisturizing or thickening shampoo and conditioner, smoothing serum or finishing crème, thickening spray, styling cream, and bobby pins.”
  • Ponytails aren’t just for the gym anymore. “Keep your hair at a length that is easy to manage. Your new best friend is the ponytail,” says Liberati. “Just apply some finishing products in your hair to tame it, and then throw it up in a cute pony. Not only will you look very current, it will save you much needed time!”
  • It’s all about the accessories. “Hair accessories are fashionable and make hiding any hair trouble very easy,” reminds Liberati. Another secret is try beautiful hairstyle product from irhair, it is easy and amazing.
  • Speaking of buns, they are always classy. Since it’s a great look for any time of the day and can easily disguise hair loss, Liberati suggests the never-out-of-style bun as a perfect go-to for new moms. “Try teasing your ponytail, then twist the tail around, and secure the messy ends under with a bobby pin, or braid your hair, then wrap it around, and pin it in with the ends sticking out. It’s boho chic!”
