Dustin Moore never expected the story of his daughter’s impromptu baby shower to go viral, but what surprised him most was the outpouring of support from fellow adoptive families. “The amazing thing about this is just how many people came out and told us about their adoption stories and said, ‘It’s so wonderful and refreshing to hear such a positive perspective on adoption.’”

On February 9th, Moore tweeted a thread sharing the heartwarming story of how two Southwest Airlines flight attendants hosted a baby shower in mid-air to celebrate his newly adopted daughter. “It’s been a difficult week. But, rather than publicly air my grievances, I’d like to share [with] you the kindness strangers offered us the day we brought our daughter home. I hope our story uplifts you, and reminds you there is goodness to be had in this world.”

The Moore’s story was picked up by every major media outlet, and the new family of three even appeared on Good Morning America to express their gratitude.

Now they’re sharing an intimate look inside their adoption journey with Raise Magazine. Moore chatted with Raise founder and fellow adoptive mom Jessica Butler about the long road to their now four-month-old daughter, his wife Caren’s initial hesitation toward adoption and the experiences that changed her mind, and whether or not the couple plans to adopt again.
