Or just as likely, we’ve got questions and you’ve got answers.

The Mom Try

My kids see me like this a lot. I'm constantly multitasking to varying degrees of success - but it allows me to work from home and be here all the time. Hopefully, they see me trying, see the effort, see when I do well, and see when I don't.

This morning, I got pulled into work at my desk before I had time to jump in the shower as I often do. It's a rainy yoga pants kind of Monday and it's real. I'm on the phone with work while holding on a call on my cell while taking notes for my to-do list while staring at my computer screen trying to troubleshoot an issue with a project at work.

This afternoon, I'll be the mom at school pick-up that is often one step behind, hustling to grab my kids and seemingly scattered. I'm not a distracted mom because I can't remember when the book fair begins, I just haven't dedicated space in my brain to remember that just yet.

A compassionate, playful, determined, creative, hustling, caregiving nurse, mom, and converse-wearing freelancer and business woman. These aren't contradictory characteristics of a woman. We can be all of the above.

Some days go better than others, but I hope my kids will look back and see the "try" in me that shows up every day. On a daily basis, I tell my kids to try their best and don't worry about the rest. As moms, it's tough to tell ourselves that...but we should try.
