My son, Calvin, was delivered 5 days after going to the emergency room, by emergency c-section and was a 1 on the APGAR scale. He had to be resuscitated, but came through it and we took him home shortly after his birth. Once home, we wasn’t feeding or thriving, so a week later, we ended up rushing him back to the hospital and into the NICU.
Both my partner (not legal to marry yet in CA) and I were upset and scared. Our newborn son had gone from over 8 lbs to under 6. He was dehydrated and the doctors were concerned he might start having seizures. We were beyond panicked. As we walked into the NICU we saw the preemies there and it sure put our situation into perspective.
Calvin was in the NICU for a week with an IV and the greatest nursing team that included the amazing Anne Parker. We are so thankful to them and soon we were on our way home again. He is now 13 years old and 6’4”. He is a star basketball player, sang with the Ragazzi Boys Choir and does great in school.
Live in the moment and know that the future is just a minute away.
