Soaking in the sun....errr.... small person.
It was gorgeous out today. As in. 89° slight breeze and sunshine in my Central Florida home.
After church I was dead set on throwing on my 2 piece swimsuit (I can 💯 get away with this when it’s my own house, stretch marks and cellulite included... you’re welcome neighbors), claiming the only full length lounging chair and laying by the pool.
And I mean, aggressively taking in the rays. Uninterrupted. For not one hour, but multiple hours. Working on my tan, obviously. It was happening.
About 48 and a half seconds into my master self-care plan, I was inundated by an alarming number of stuffed animals that were being carefully placed along my legs and around my chair. This was followed by a splashing contest that was funny-not-funny totally cramping my style. Action figures made their way into the mix. Then nerf guns, outdoor urination and more “mama look at this” from 3 directions than I was mentally prepared for.
This beautiful afternoon of female self-soothing relaxation ended with about 45 minutes like this. Singing a systematic rotation of lullabies on repeat by request. With a small person perfectly positioned on my abdomen squishing down my already post-3-babies-including-twins squishy belly.
I had the perfect self-care relaxing, euphoric afternoon planned.
Then I remembered I’m a mom.
Let’s be honest, my 36 year old skin is thankful for the minimal direct sunlight.
And my heart is thankful I am still needed.
