The other morning at 4:00 AM, I was soaking in my baby girl’s littleness. Because I’m 8 months pregnant, I’m always getting up to use the restroom and peek in at my babies to ensure they are sleeping safe and sound.

She cried for me around 2:00 AM, like she does most nights, begging to come to my bed for some middle-of-the-night cuddles. Of course, I obliged.

Within the next few weeks, she will no longer be our littlest baby, but our sweet middle child.

Moms of multiples know that while anxious to meet their newborn babe, suddenly your other children feel so grown once that new, precious life enters the world.

It is a bittersweet time as they suddenly feel fiercely independent and needier at the same time.

For the expectant mama — I urge you to soak in those 2:00 AM, 4:00 AM, and 6:00 AM feeding sessions. One day you will wake up and suddenly your little baby will be a fiercely independent child who jumps out of bed before 6:00 AM, ready to run around and take on the world.

And you’ll crave their littleness once more.
