While too much of moisture abets mildew and mold, inadequate moisture level carries its own risks. As the temperature takes a dip, the moisture level starts to lower down which leads to dryness all around. With fall knocking at the door, winter is not far behind. Thus, moms should start to check out for the signs of dryness around so that they can get a humidifier in place before it’s too late. A humidifier is a device that adds the needed moisture to air to eliminate risks of dryness.

Major signs that scream need for humidifier

  • Chapped dry lips
  • Dry skin & eyes
  • Sore throat
  • Cough
  • Flu
  • Cracking in furniture and other wooden stuff
  • Static electricity
  • Allergens
  • Respiratory issues like asthma

If you notice any such signs at your home, you must not delay to get a humidifier. Now, these signs won’t be visible at present but as fall concludes to end- you will soon start getting such signals.

Actually, home heaters dry out indoor air in colder months which leads to uncomfortable dryness, chapped skin & static electricity. A humidifier is all that you need here since this device works to enhance the moisture level in air to prevent dryness and related issues.

How to buy a humidifier?

There is no dearth of humidifiers around but not all would be equally suitable for you. In fact there are a number of factors to consider while choosing the best humidifier for you. For example, you would need a portable one if you want to carry it along with you. But if you want something for the entire home, then nothing can be better than a central humidifier.

Below is a brief on the things to consider while choosing your humidifier-

Get a comparative study

First, you must get a comparative study on minimum 4-5 humidifiers before the final decision. There are online humidifier review sites from where you can check detailed reviews and ratings. The one you choose should be the most reputed of the lot. Just one thing- don’t buy the newest one in the market. Focus on a one which has been in the market for some months now.

Measure your space

You must get a measurement of your space where you plan to have the humidifier. These devices are available in various sizes to cater to a broad range of areas. For example, a small one would be good for rooms up till 300 sq.ft and an area of 399-499 sq.ft needs a medium one. However, big wide area (500+ sq.ft) would call for large sized humidifiers.

Remember, the moisture/humidity level must be within 30-50%.

How long does it run at a stretch?

Some humidifiers can run up to 12 hours at a stretch while the best ones can function uninterruptedly for even 36 hours.

Finally, if you have little kids at home, it’s better to get a table based option instead of a floor-based one.
