Today, I would like to share and spread awareness about Trigger Thumb condition to all parents who are having kids between 1 to 3 years of age.

The trigger thumb condition usually effects 5 in every 1000 infants and kids between age 1 to 3 year.

My daughter, named, Tejasvi Sharma was operated for trigger thumb yesterday. Though it was a successful operation, but being a father, it was like very emotional moment for me when she was taken to operation theatre.

What is trigger thumb or Finger in Children :- Trigger thumb or finger is a condition that causes your fingers or thumb get stuck in a bent position and you also may have stiffness when bending the finger(s) or hear snapping and popping when moving the finger(s) .

My daugther's thumb was completely bent and she cannot even straighten it. It was very painful, when she tried to flat or straightened her thumb. There are 2 steps that every doctor suggest before going for an operation.

Before operating, the first step that my doctor suggested, is to give my daughter combiflame syrup medicine for 7 days and see whether condition improves. But there wasn't any sign of improvement and then 2nd step involves giving steroid injection right inside the bone of the thumb. And it was very painful for my daughter. Even after steroid injection the condition did not improve and she was then operated.

I would like to update each and every parent to closely check their kids fingers and thumb. Because its not painful until you start the treatment . If left untreated your child's finger or thumb will be permanently damaged and later cannot be treated.
