His note read, “I love you so much.”

It had been a hard day, and after putting our sons to bed, I found this little love note on the kitchen table.

“I love you so much.”

Of course, anyone would lit up with an unexpected “I love you.” But those last two words made me swoon.

“So much.”

And I knew then that’s exactly the kind of love I want to live out as we face a new year.

The kind that adds the extra when it’s not required.

The hand-written notes.

The taking turns with the laundry and the dishes.

The going to church and reading the Bible at home together.

The putting the phone down and learning more about each other.

The race to say “I’m sorry” first.

The rubbing my feet when I settle into bed.

The scratching his back when he’s watching TV.

The stewarding our bodies and budgets with purpose.

And intentionally modeling this kind of love in action to our kids and to our community, too.

Helping with their shoelaces when they’re frustrated and late.

Biting my tongue when it would be easier to snap back.

Waving someone to go on ahead when I know it’s really my turn.

Listening to the other point of view instead of throwing punches.

Giving thanks every day for how God has blessed me so much.

So very much.

He used a love note to remind me of that today.

Let’s find out how God can use us to remind someone else of it tomorrow.

Here’s to making 2020 a year of so much. ❤️
