If tables could talk...Thankful Thursday by Wendie Davis-Grauer

Posting a little early, but this is my gratitude post for day 9/November 9: I bought a beautiful, “new to me” table and chairs off Swip Swap from a pastoral family. In the middle of the night,
I couldn’t sleep, because I kept wondering about the table.

I posed the question: “I am struggling to fall asleep, and I’m thinking about the table—wondering its story. I am a writer and a sucker for a good story—I wonder the history. Being a pastoral family, I can only imagine the prayers said there, joys shared, sorrow brought forth, bittersweet mixed with blessings in disguise. All the people who have graced those 8 seats—willingly, begrudgingly, sacrificially, thankfully? There’s a history of years worth in each and every crevice and I desire to know it. I am sentimental and only pray it will bring love and togetherness in our home, with my babies.❤️”

Her reply: “O my goodness, this is bringing tears to my eyes. How precious are you?? O my goodness, you’re so right that there is so much that has happened at that table. It’s 12 years old, we bought it when my daughter was 1. So many meals around that table. A lot of counseling sessions with people, dinners with friends, dinner for Holidays, game nights galore, pulling 2 year olds from the table to go to time out for refusing to eat their food. Attachable high chairs sat in the seat of the chairs to have our babies join us to eat. We planned our budget at the table, said many, many prayers while holding hands as a family. We eat every meal that we can together at that table.
Wow, it’s amazing what you can ponder when you really think about it. How beautiful!!! Thank you so much for this perspective❤️❤️”

To some it might just be a scratched up table with nicks and blemishes, but to me, it’s another chapter worth exploring, building memories, and creating opportunities and joy with my family. ❤️
