Our ego has its own needs. It needs to be stimulated, comfortable and safe and above all, it needs to be appreciated. If it does not feel enough appreciated in a job or in a relationship, it will soon start looking for a new job or a new relationship where it thinks it will find more appreciation.

We have the power to give our ego this much sought after appreciation although which, more than often we expect this to come from others.

We often fail to appreciate our own ego, predominantly because we are made to believe that our egos are a part of our lower nature which needs to be subdued and overcome. Similarly, we fail to appreciate others as a result of our under nourished ego.

The difference between big ego and strong ego

People who have a big ego are diametrically people with a strong ego. Individuals with bigger ego fall harder than individuals with stronger ego, who take the fall much better. People with strong ego have better resilience, balance and personal power and they are quick to rebound.

They are self-confident, flexible, emotionally stable and adaptive and are able to cope with the frustrations and stresses of daily life far more easily. On the other hand, people whose ego is big and not strong is quite vulnerable.

Since their esteem is not firmly anchored from within, their ego is compared to that of a big balloon which can be deflated at the slightest prick. Therefore, it can be concluded that bigger the ego, the weaker it is. They do not confidently believe in themselves. They are unable to reveal an innate openness which makes it difficult for them to combat emotional differences on a frequent basis.

A strong ego is indistinguishable from that of a healthy ego. Learning to feel good from inside and appreciate oneself as well as others is the ideal recipe for healthy interpersonal relationships.
