I never understood how my parents could enjoy a cup of coffee at any point of the day.
Then I gave birth to a beautiful 9.6 pound baby girl who had a love/hate relationship with sleep. And coffee and I, well, we became pretty darn good friends.
Then, child #2 came bouncing in to the world at a whopping 10.6 pounds and had a better outlook on sleep, yet coffee and I took our relationship to the next level when teething and ear infections became a part of our routine.
Never say never, folks.
It is now 3:00 in the afternoon, and I am enjoying my afternoon coffee. Why? Because I am sleepy, and well, they don't look to fondly on employees who sleep on the job. So I am told. Best not to test that theory out.
What I wish is that someone had come along when they thought I might listen and tell me that you will find ways to get things done, and to stay awake whilst doing so - and you will find this miracle cure for delirium in the wonderfulness of coffee. And it will make no sense how you are still functional. And you will wonder when your head will actually HIT the desk, but you will make it through long nights, and you will make it through long days. Miraculously - you will.
When it sure seems like those long nights/days won't end. EVER.
When those teeth you wish you could pull through gums with your bare fingers.
When your child decided 2:00am is a perfect time for a party to start.
And you still have to make it to work the next morning - refreshed and ready to rock the day.
Coffee will be there, holding your hand.
