I have 2 teenagers and all they seem to want to do is stay glued to their electronics all day long. I know this sounds funny but my kids seem so much nicer when they are grounded from their electronics, it’s like they have a whole other attitude. Well this mom is fed up, I am tired of them sitting like sloths in their rooms glaring into their computer/tv screens like zombies. So I decide to come up with a way to make them earn their game time. While they were away at school last September, I made this chart full of simple household chores or things that would get them outside playing and made a point system out of it. I taped it to their doors and anxiously awaited for them to come home. Basically they have to collect 500 points to earn their game time for the day. Also if they do not do a good job and just rush through it because they are mad then they get points taken off which means they have to work even harder to collect their points.

They walked in the door like chatty Cathy’s and as soon as they got to their bedroom doors …. SILENCE! My daughter was like OK no problem, of course she is my easy going one anyways. The terror on my sons face was priceless though. He proceeded to whine but I quickly nipped in the bud and as soon as he knew I meant business he started choosing from the list and got through everything without one complaint!

SCORE ONE FOR ME!!!!!!!! The kids will be active and mom gets her house clean, not to mention when they leave the nest they will at least have some sort of home economic skills. I will probably tweak this list as I go along and see how it is working out. Having trouble with your kids? Maybe you could give this a try and if you do I’d love for you to tell me how it’s going.

This has been such a great help that I wish i would have thought of this when they were little!
