As COVID-19 continues, home may feel like a place to stay versus a place to feel or enjoy. I read a recent Smithsonian Magazine article that resonated with me, “Be it ever so humble, it’s more than just a place. It’s also an idea—one where the heart is”*
Our family sheltered in place on March 13 and other than essential grocery store outings every 7 to 10 days have continued to shelter at home since then. Please don’t get me wrong, I don’t wake up every day with a smile on my face with butterflies, rainbows and hearts floating around us. We have had to adjust to having two working parents in the house and running two virtual home schools with an extroverted 10 year old daughter who has gone from overachiever to just get what has to be done and an increasingly moody, introverted 13 year old son whose favorite past times seems to be arguing and telling me not to yell (when I am not yelling, which usually results in an exchange that results in yelling).
With all that said, one day I hope my kids remember this as time for a renewed sense of what home means and a life that is a little less rushed, a little more about family and a lot about the love we have as a family.
My daughter shared this in her Mother’s Day card to me (which she quickly admitted was a school assignment but I still love all of it). I hope that we can find the time during our current craziness to remember they are watching us, they are learning how to confront change and challenges and they are learning the meaning of home sweet home. Happy Mother’s Day
I hope you are having a great day and hope you get to celebrate with something special even though we can’t be closer than six feet. When I am sad you make me happy with your wam moving smile. We have a friendship that can’t be broken. We build each other up not to tear down to grow together. I wanted to share some of the things I love about you most:
Is your look at the bright side
Never give up and
You take care of each one of us
I always love to play hockey with you and all the fun outdoor games we play together and doing meditation. So that’s why give you this care in appressation to being the best, mom happy Mother’s Day.
