Ok hear me out.

A nice warm homemade meal with everyone properly dressed and gathered around the dinner table is great. Truly. It’s a nice time for everyone to unwind and talk.

But I work long hours and get home late. My husband is traveling out of state on business this week. I was traveling out of state on business last week. My kids are exhausted from end of the school year burnout. My dog is incessantly barking at the neighbor dog through the privacy fence.

Paper plates, corn dogs, 4 day old leftover chicken wings, a glass of white wine, tablets, headphones, relaxed lounging little boys.

That’s what hits the spot tonight.
That’s what warms my heart tonight.
That’s what works for our family tonight.
And I’m not mad about it.

Bonus points. They’re all showered.
So there’s that.

Family dinner means different things to different people.

Tonight, this is ours.
And this… this is everything.
