Frikadeller are the quintessential Danish Meatball. Every family has their own recipe or way of making it. Served with new potatoes and parsley sauce, this is my version of comfort food.

Frikadeller

Prep Time: 30 min Cooking Time: 20 min

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Fresh Ground Pork, unseasoned
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup milk
  • 1 small onion, finely minced
  • ¼ cup flour
  • ¼-½ tsp. salt
  • ¼ - ½ tsp. black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

Preparation

  1. Combine all the ingredients except for the butter and olive oil in the bowl of a stand mixer.
  2. Mix together on a low speed for about 7-10 minutes, until well mixed.
  3. Test for seasoning at this point by frying a little of the meat in a pan. You can add more salt or pepper at this point.
  4. Heat the butter and olive oil until hot in a shallow fry pan.
  5. Place in the hot oil, fry until golden brown on each side. Continue to cook the remaining meatballs, removing the cooked meatballs to a warm platter.
  6. Serve with a white sauce flavoured with fresh minced parsley and new potatoes, and some Red Cabbage.
