The Tablet wars

My son is 5 years old and loves to spend time on his tablet. This has been a big learning experience for me because I want him to enjoy technology but not be so attached to it that he misses out on "real" life. Before tablet time, he has to make sure his chores are finished and his pre-school lessons are completed. He is allowed to spend about 30 minutes on his tablet and then it's outside for playing. I monitor what he watches. The YouTube app is hidden, but he is allowed to watch the Kids YouTube app. I monitor what he does and views. Unfortunately, things labelled "kid-friendly" aren't always what they claim to be. I want him to hang onto his innocence as long as he can. Tablet is not allowed at the dinner table, and no tech devices are permitted while eating. If we have company drop by, I make sure his tablet is put down until company leaves. I want him to understand that people and relationships are much more important than what is provided by his tech device.
