Hanging up the phone, my stomach was in knots, nervous about what was happening so fast. She had given me the okay to come over. It could have been anywhere, but it was only a few streets away, so close we could have walked. We pulled up, a kindly woman opened the door. She led us in to where he was playing, a beautiful, healthy, 4 month old boy, full of smiles and laughter. When I picked him up for the first time, it was like we both knew right away that I was his mom, and he was my son. There was no fear in his eyes of this new person, it was like we had done this hundreds of times before. Daddy took his turn to meet his son, we were both instantly in love.

We had only learned of his availability 6 weeks before, but even then he was mine. I told his foster mom that the case worker informed us that since we were planning to adopt him, then we could choose for him a new name. I spent my evenings searching baby names on the internet. It had to be perfect, this was a miracle, and we wanted to express that in his name.

Mesmerized by our new love, the kindly woman asked, "What is his name?"

"His name is Jonathan, because God gives."
