To Those Moms

If you long to post a picture of a simple and happy life, I am one of you, too.

If your stories are weighted with hurt, grief, or consuming worry, I am one of you, too.

If you wish you were a better mother, one that happily made cookies or read multiple bedtime stories. I am one of you, too.

If you long to be appreciated for the good that you do but feel guilty even over that, I am one of you, too.

If you wish your mom was with you, fulfilling the real circle of motherhood, I am one of you, too.

If you want to offer your children your whole heart but struggle because of your own hurt, I am one of you, too.

If you get up every day and I try not to complain and fail, I am one of you, too.

If you long for joy and sadness prevails too often, I am one of you, too.

If you feel that the world is so big and you are so small, I am one of you, too.

If you love your children but don't like them sometimes, I am one of you, too.

If being a mother feels like the best gift but with the most strings attached, I am one of you, too.

If you would choose this path over again, I am one of you, too.
