Time can turn to steam in the hands of stressed out mommies and daddies. Time was once on your side, but this has changed dramatically. This is not to say that you aren't happy with how much time your kids take up, but you want a little for yourself. The following are a few tips that may help you do just that.
Fostering Interest
Wanting a break does not make you a bad parent. Be sure to commit to this concept because it's true. There is no need to feel guilty because parental breaks give you an opportunity to recharge, to work on your own stability, and other relations.
One thing you can do is get your kids involved in clubs, but do not force them because it may seem obvious that you are trying to just drop them off somewhere. Find something they are genuinely interested in and foster that interest. Be sure to support your kid or kids in whatever they end up choosing to do.
Takes a Village
It is time to realize that you are not the only parent out there hoping to find a way to take a break. Speak up, and use that natural camaraderie that exists between parents to your advantage because it benefits everyone. Start the conversation about sharing the responsibility of the children amongst each other.
The children are going to spend time with each other, and you are going to get a moment of piece every so often. You can start a local parent kid-sitting swap co-op or use numerous smartphone apps that are helping parents connect to other parents for this purpose. It may sound unorthodox, but this saves money on babysitting.
Cut Prep Work
You probably care about what your family eats like many other parents. Some parents have started to do more things at home to control ingredients, but this can take up a lot of your time. You have to figure out a way to cut all that prep work to gain a little more time. For one, you can do all the heavy prep work the day before and use containers. This frees up some of your time later.
You can also just get condiments like jams, mayonnaise, and other properly made kitchen necessities already made from trustworthy wholesale food suppliers. A person can take a few hours making a jam or homemade mayonnaise. Sure, it's nice to do it from time to time, but perhaps this can be done when you've gained control over your time.
Redefine Vacations
It may be time for you to redefine vacations. You might think that taking a break has to feel like a real vacation, but there may be moments in your life that could serve the same purpose. For example, try to use your child's bath time to read a book or watch something on your smartphone.
You can also take this idea a step forward by joining a sport, or take a class with your significant other. These are not exactly vacations, but they certainly will feel like they are, even though you are not leaving your family. Try to choose something that you both enjoy to make sure this feels as stress-relieving as it should.
Be sure to teach your kids about the importance of having this special time when they are young. This should make it easier for them to take care of themselves when they get older. Kids who really understand this will even help you find more time for yourself, which is the goal.
