As a child I never knew a different Santa Claus other than the traditional depiction existed. There was only one option for Santa, and his skin tone was different than mine. During the Christmas season, I was elated to go to the mall to snag a photo with Santa. This tradition made the season more magical and festive.

This year, my idea of only one depiction of Santa was forever changed when my family and I learned about The Black Santa Company. Black Santa is NBA legend, Baron Davis’ brainchild. He wanted to add diversity to the holiday cheer and is doing just that with his line of apparel and positive message. We fell in love with the brand at first sight and ordered matching shirts for our annual holiday photo shoot. As we strolled through the mall scouting out the perfect backdrop for our photo shoot, we noticed the smiles on the faces of onlookers. Many stopped us to remark about how much they loved our shirts. Why? What was the big deal? Oh, Black Santa was on our shirts.

The Black Santa Company has a mission to spread a culture of sharing throughout the world. Here are a few other highlights about this company that made us instant supporters:

It’s a movement. According to their mission, The Black Santa Company aims to celebrate diversity through the creation of original characters that represent us all and uphold the spirit of goodwill and community. This is a movement that transcends the holiday season. It is something that can transform perceptions and stereotypes while creating a culture of inclusion.

It’s revolutionary. According to Founder Baron Davis, Black Santa is something that is needed in today’s society. "With all that’s going on in this country, and particularly in the African-American community, I want to offer heroes and role models through storytelling. Black Santa is the first character. His mission is to celebrate diversity, the joy of giving and the magic of good. He’s here to bring people together and have fun." - Baron Davis.

It’s top quality. It is clear that the Black Santa team took time to identify the best quality material for the apparel in their product line. The T-shirts we wore during our photo shoot were the perfect combination of soft and durable. More than just apparel, The Black Santa Company also offers wrapping paper and other items that promote positive and empowering messages.
