One of the biggest contentions individuals have with starting a journey to building a healthier lifestyle is the effect it might have on their budget. Although eating healthier foods and working out more frequently don’t traditionally go hand-in-hand with saving money, there are several tactics you can employ to develop healthier habits while actually saving a few bucks a month.

  • A reported 67 percent of people who own a gym membership claim they never use it. If you’re a little less than motivated to hit the gym on your own, it might be time to cancel your membership and opt for something more exciting. An excellent way to find a more motivating workout and save some money is to start taking your exercise outdoors.
  • You can motivate yourself to get outside more often by starting a hiking or biking group with your friends. If you don’t know any fellow outdoorsy individuals, you could always check out Meetups in your area to find others who would be willing to set a schedule for regular outdoor activities.
  • 3.Host brunch at home
  • Getting together with friends and family over the weekend usually means meeting up for coffee or brunch. Although dining out here and there won’t ruin your diet or your budget when done in moderation, going out once or twice each week can really add up.
  • If you constantly find yourself eating out on the weekends, consider hosting your most popular meal for dining out at home. You can work with your guests to contribute potluck style or simply chip in for the materials you buy. Either way, this will likely save you at least $30 per meal once you factor in appetizers, drinks, and desserts.
  • In addition to saving money on what could have been a pricey meal, you will have more control over the portion sizes and the ingredients for the food you eat than you would if you went to a restaurant.

  • Planning out your meals is one of the simplest ways to save money and keep your caloric intake down. Although this might seem like something that is typically reserved for body builders and fitness models, meal prep can actually be a highly effective way to manage your weight, even if you’re not a hardcore fitness addict.
