Whether you are planning a birthday party, a sweet 16 party, a Bar Mitzvah, etc., if it is a party for a teenager, you may end up having a tough time coming up with just the right idea for an awesome party they will love. After all, they are teenagers, and they seem to be into something different every other day. But, with the right planning, you can pull off a party that your teen and their friends will be talking about (in a good way) for many weeks to come.

Consider Your Teen’s Preferences

The first thing to consider is the individual preferences of your teen, along with their age. For instance, if they are 14 years old and into sports, you don’t want to give them a Harry Potter themed party. Some kids like to have a lot of people around them, while others prefer to just hang out with a few close friends. Some kids may not even want a party at all, but would rather spending a fun evening going out to dinner with you and other family members. No matter what their preferences are, you can create a memorable party that they will love.

Give Yourself Time

You also need to make sure that you give yourself plenty of time for party planning. You want to make sure that you get every detail just right, and planning the perfect party can take several months, depending on the type of shindig you are planning. If you are having the party at a venue outside your home, you need to give yourself at least a month to make sure that you can reserve the venue, invite guests, plan the menu, etc. If you are having a Bar/Bat Mitzvahs or any celebration where you want videos made, be sure to book your Bar-Bat Mitzvah videographer well in advance.

Party Ideas

Now we come to the most difficult part of planning a party for a teen: ideas for things to keep everyone entertained and having fun. Here are some party ideas for both teen boys and girls that they will love.
  • Dance Party – Teenage girls love to have dance parties, and there are a lot of boys who enjoy this type of party as well. To really make the party special, rent a hall or other venue, and decorate it to look like a real prom. Make sure that the guests dress accordingly, depending on the type of dance you host (formal, sock hop, rave, etc.).
  • Spa Day – If you have a teenage daughter, you can be sure that she and her friends would absolutely love to be pampered during a spa day. Even if you can only afford to get them manis and pedis, they will love the experience, and they will also love showing off their lovely fingernails and toe nails.
  • Movie Night – Boys and girls both love movie nights, and this is a great way to ensure they are having fun while being safe. You can choose to have the movie night at your home, or send the party goers to the theatre for a real movie night. If they are under 14, they may need to be chaperoned, and you will need to make sure that everyone has a ride home afterwards.
  • Adventure Day – If your teen is athletic and enjoys extreme sports, why not plan an adventure-themed party for their big day? Ideas include rock climbing walls, skating, go-karts, paintball, laser tag, hiking, etc.
