I wear this mask
so that you don't see
the substandard parts of me.
It hides my imperections
or so I thought
for a good impression, I've always fought.
I want to be liked
I want to feel love
so I've got to give insecurity a shove.
And so do you
if you're at all like me
trying to feel free and longing to just be.
Be the mess of person you are
the one who has come so very far;
the one pushing and working to do her best
and doing it all with very little rest.
You're a woman, you’re a wife,
you’re a mom, daughter, and friend,
and you want to keep being everything to all
until the very bitter end.
And sometimes you feel tired
perhaps even scared
but know this and know it well,
your feelings are so very shared.
Every other mother,
like you, she feels the same.
Wondering and pondering,
will she win the game?
The game that is her life,
she's got a lot at stake.
But every single day,
it's mistake after mistake she makes.
So, please remind her if you see her
and I'll do the same for you
tell her that "Girl, you're rockin it!"
and "No one does it like you, boo!"
'Cause we all need that support
those people in our court
who will never ever EVER ever
let us sell ourselves short.
