I'm a great mom because I'm not afraid to show my kids that I'm human and IMPERFECT. I don't pretend to have it all together, I wear my emotions on my sleeves, yoga pants, and on my face. And I'm honest with them. As the mom of three teenage girls, if I want them to talk to me about their challenges, share with me their hopes and fears, then I have to be real with them. If they ask me how my day has been, first I thank them for thinking of me and then I tell them the truth. Some days are great, others, not so much. All the different kind of days allow them to practice a range of emotions that are just as important as their intellectual capacity. I'm a great mom because I model humanity and resiliency - they see me struggle and get up every morning to achieve my goals, no matter how dog tired I might be. I'm a great mom because I don't give up - on them, on me, or on life. This shows them that they are worth it and they are up to it. And because they see me show up to life, even when life is not that much fun, they know I will always show up for them. And they will learn to show up for themselves.
