The quality of the mathematical knowledge that the student receives is directly dependent on the teacher. 1. Making mistakes is okay

Avoid too strict remarks for the wrong answer. Otherwise, the pupil will not be able to perform even the simplest task because of the fear of making a mistake. To avoid making mistakes, children tend to cram formulas and methods of solution. At the same time, the understanding of the current material sharply worsens, which makes it impossible to study a new one. Focus not on problems, but on achievements. Let the successful solution of the problem cause joy and a sense of satisfaction and mistakes arouse the desire to learn and deepen the knowledge.

2. Encourage the questions "Why?" And "How?"

After explaining the topic, teacher frequently asks the class: "Do you have any questions?" Is everything clear? "As a rule, the answer is silence. However, this does not mean that everything is clear. Many children just hesitate to ask. But unasked questions can deepen misunderstanding when answers can leave the student with room for reflection, the possibility of questioning the truth. It is essential to establish a constructive dialogue between the pupil and the teacher. Such dialog will help those who are into math form strong point of view on the question and support those who have problems with this subject to understand the material well.

You should encourage children to ask questions and to wonder why, for example, that rule is applied to that problem. Only responding to kids’ request you can ensure their understanding.

3. Form a consistent knowledge system

Mathematics is an exact science. It is necessary to understand what happens at each stage of the solving the problem. The school program is based on axioms and definitions. These most "fundamental" elements of the course need to be especially clear for the kid. Therefore, do not spare time to repeat the passed material. Stop and focus on everything that causes even the slightest doubt in the kid’s mind.

4. Think in the language of mathematics

To solve math problems, child has to master its language. When writing a text, a writer operates correct phrases and colocations. The same way a student should operate theorems and formulas. You can help your pupils with that by simply describing complex rules. Make them memorize essential rules without cramming the textbooks.

Colorful stickers and reminders will become perfect assistants in learning math. Put them on a desk, walls or anywhere in the classroom, where you think they will look suitable. Make math fun and easy to apprehend!

Don’t forget, kids – are perfect learners. They percept all information even unhelpful one if it is clear and interesting for them. So make your classes exciting, and you will be impressed with your students’ achievements.
