Halloween has always been a favorite holiday of mine. Now that I have children it's even better. However traveling for Halloween vs. staying home, trick or treating around your neighborhood can alter your costume choice.

For my youngest sons first birthday we celebrated by heading to Disney World's Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. We made plans to be in Magic Kingdom on Halloween night for the party and trick or treating.

Traveling with a family, especially with little ones, certainly has its challenges – especially packing! So I knew I had to come up with a simple, comfortable, costume idea that everyone would be okay with wearing. Plus, the costumes couldn't take up a bunch of space or be heavy.

I decided we would all be pirates on our first trip. I used white t-shirts, black shorts and red material for the accents. The costumes were perfect for Disney. Cool enough for the heat, comfortable enough for all the walking and the rides, and a touch of Disney inspiration – Pirates Of The Caribbean.

We loved Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party so much we went back two years late. I loved how well our first costumes came out, so I decided I would do another DIY costume idea.

Again t-shirts were needed along with a hot glue gun and some colored felt. We became the Monster's Inc. family.

Making your own costumes for Halloween, especially for travel, can be so simple and inexpensive.

Happy Halloween!
