What did their morning look like before heading off to school?
Was it a morning of peace? Was the weather cool?
Was breakfast made? Had she rushed out the door?
Did it hurt at all when his head hit the floor?
Will the memory fade? Did he grab his gym bag?
Did she apologize for the words they had?
Did Dad say goodnight when he got home last night?
Did Mom say okay so they wouldn’t fight?
Did anyone suspect that the boy’s heart was alone?
Did the girl get through to her Mom on the phone?
Did they laugh at dinner while they cleaned up the plates?
Did they kiss goodnight and warn, ‘don’t stay up too late.’
Did they share any words the night before?
Did he nag his son to do one more chore?
Did she pass a smile to the lonely boy?
Will he ever see a day of joy?
Did she miss the bus from sleeping late?
Did she miss the bus and dodge her fate?
Was he feeling sick, but you made him go?
Don’t be blame yourself. You couldn’t know.
Did the dog snuggle with her to heal her heart?
They yell and fight, did he not feel smart?
Did they talk, did they laugh, did they just give up?
Did they not know that he had enough?
Did she know how much she meant to me?
Will he grow up here like it’s supposed to be?
My heart is heavy, I can barely see.
I want my kids to come home to me.
