Do you think that staying in a luxurious hotel will allow your child to make the most of your travels? Travelling is an amazing educational opportunity for kids. Adventurous journeys replenish your soul and make you a better person. But for that to happen, you need to feel the authenticity of the place and the people you are visiting. That is why caravan travelling is the best. If you want to make sure it is a smooth ride, here are some tips from the experienced nomad.

Things You Should Have in Your Caravan

You need very long extension leads and hoses. That will allow you to park wherever you like in a camping park. Also, get a couple of garden hose fittings. You never know what size they use in your park. You need torches and batteries, just in case. Chairs and table go without saying. A great idea is to pack a big mat that you can put in front of your caravan. Your kids can spend hours colouring and playing on it. Also, a coupling lock will prevent your caravan from being stolen.

Packing Tips

You need to be extra safe, given that your kids are with you. One of the cool tricks for a safer ride is to distribute the weight smartly. All your heavy load should be around your caravan’s wheel. Medium sized cargo should be in the lowest cargo area, evenly spread. If it needs to go higher, it should be above the wheel. Only the lightest items should be put on the top of the caravan.

How to Organize Cooking

You don’t want to spend your time cooking on your trip. Also, you will spend a ton of money always eating out. And yes, it is possible to get fed up with BBQ. The answer is precooked meals in your freezer. Try to freeze your food flat, so that it doesn’t take up too much space. You can shred the carrots or dice the zucchini before freezing them. Also, use tortillas and wraps instead of bread. In this way, you will never be forced to worry about dinner for your kids.

Rent or Borrow Your First Caravan

There are some cheaper models of caravans, but using a caravan is a unique experience. Before you cash out, try renting one first. This will give you a better idea whether you and your family truly enjoy travelling this way. Also, make sure that you choose an appropriate caravan for yourself, in terms of size. It is most likely that your car can safely pull caravans under 5 m in length. Longer than that, and you need a strong 4WD vehicle for it. Once you develop a taste for it, head to a reputable caravan seller and buy one. There’s nothing like having a good and affordable Watsons Jayco caravan to call your second home.

Safety goes first when kids are involved. Driving a caravan is not quite the same as driving a car. You need to go slower, be extra careful when turning and always think about the side wind that can tip you over. There are short and useful courses for driving a caravan that you may consider before heading on a trip with your family. That way, you will be more relaxed and have more fun.
