It is impossible to ignore the discussion around big data. Big data is the effort to use the huge amount of data that modern technology enables us to collect in order to make more informed decisions, allow for companies to build better offerings and provide us with personalized services that matter to us.

Many are now paying attention to big data in parenting! Big data could help us be more informed, potentially knowing more about preventative health issues in babies, understand academic performance of kids and also understand whereabouts & actions of our kids & teens. On the other hand, big data can allow companies like Instagram to market our personal information & convince us to buy stuff or with the recent Cambridge Analytica issue, allow companies like Facebook to allow for manipulative use of our personal data.

Having three teenage children have made me realize that while I can focus on helping my kids manage their data privacy, data being shared and used by companies are inevitable. Hence I am now focused on how big data & technology can be used to protect & or benefit my teenage children

Two of my kids have started driving and that is what I focused on - here are some cool technology I've discovered that uses big data & technology to benefit my teenage kids and I

1. Automatic

Automatic is a connected car data that not only provides me updates and alerts me on error messages in the car. More importantly, it alerts the family when an accident occurs.

2. Moveco

Moveco is a new mobility rewards program that allows drivers to earn loyalty points as they drive. These points are then used for gas and other benefit to help lower the cost of car owernship. WIth some of the data going to build smart cities & the future of autonomous cars, seems pretty cool for my kids to be part of
